Life On Purpose
Kiersten Venezia
When my living days are over
Will I read the writing on the wall?
Will I be weighed and found wanting,
Neglecting what you gave me
Misusing it instead?
Fear is lurking at my doorway
Trying hard to break it down.
Apathy slowly suffocating.
It stays with my permission,
But it’s welcome’s wearing thin.
I wanna live life on purpose,
No more wasted days.
I wanna live life on purpose,
And not squander it away.
I wanna live life on purpose,
Put Your glory on display.
‘Cause you have more, abundantly more, for this life.
I know my life’s not accidental
I was created for God’s plan.
In His providence He chose me
To go and tell His story
In every way I can.
I don’t wanna miss my calling
Or fade into the background noise.
This casual existence will not change the world.
I wanna live a life that matters
And break out of this comfort zone,
Starting right now.
Be Brave
Kiersten Venezia
Do you ever take a chance,
weigh the risk
and make a plan?
Do you ever take a stand
and do what’s right
for your fellow man?
What are you waiting for?
Love’s calling you to get out of the boat.
Be strong,
have faith.
Look beyond what they may say.
Be bold
and unafraid.
Cast your fears away,
(Act now and don’t delay) last time only
You can make a better day.
Be brave.
It’s gonna pour for forty days
go build your ark
and let it rain
When you’re against your Jericho
pick up your horn
and let it blow.
What are you waiting for?
Love’s calling you so get out of the boat.
Go ahead; you’ve got nothing to lose.
Who cares if they think you’re a fool.
Love and goodness will surely be yours
and they’ll shine on you
wherever you go.
Common Deeds
Kiersten Venezia
What does it take to change the world?
What does it take to touch a life?
The answer lies in the smallest of deeds,
Do what is good, do what is right.
It takes just a spark to ignite a flame.
From just a small seed grows a sheltering tree.
The work of our hands in the hands of our God
Will become more than we can believe.
Do whatever you can
Wherever you go
To whoever you find in need.
Give whenever you can
With whatever you have
And you’ll be surprised to see.
God works through common deeds.
A job well done will fan the flame.
A welcoming smile will water the soul.
If we take the time, truly live in the moment
There’s no end to what will unfold.
She Gets Grace
Kiersten Venezia
Too many years,
too many memories
that haunt her as she passes the playground.
Choice after choice,
made out of fear.
Now she’s left with just regret for what she’s done.
She can’t go back
And fix her wrongs
So she prays that she could somehow be forgiven.
She gets Grace
An undeserved blessing from above
Favor from the maker of true love
She gets Grace
Another chance to live and love again
A little life to help her comprehend
She gets Grace
Far, far away,
Orphaned and afraid
There’s a little girl she’s waiting to bring home.
Grace will be her name,
What once was lost is found
Two lives forever changed;
A perfect picture of God’s love.
We’ve all been called as sons and daughters
Children of our Holy Father
Righteous by the sacrifice
Of our Savior Jesus Christ
We get grace
Like she gets Grace.
Back to Eden
Kiersten Venezia
Clutching his note in her hands
She didn’t have the strength to understand
Twenty years and forty pounds ago
He looked in her eyes
And promised not to leave
But now he’s gone and she begins to cry
Bring me back to Eden
Bring me back where all was right
Bring me back where there’s no fear and no one needs to hide
Bring me back to Eden
Bring me back to paradise
Bring me back where sorrow, pain, and tears are out of sight
Bring me back to Eden
Pigtails and pink overalls
Her laugh still lingers in their halls
Friends say that time heals all wounds
But time’s standing still
Exposing all their pain
There’s nothing left that they can do but cry
All this hurt and pain around us
How can we ever make it through
Take me to the place where I find
Your beauty and grace
Where I once walked alone with you
Whisper Your Mercy
Kiersten Venezia
Inspired by the poem, “The Whisperer” by Karen Michel
I love this old place
with it’s strong stately walls
Secure and so private
when enemies call
It’s halls decorated
with noble awards
and chiseled lists
of my worthiness
I’d ask you to come in
and pull up a chair
Forgetting the invite
is not mine to share
You’ve summoned my soul
to tell long ago
of your vengeance
and your holiness
But then you pass by
with a hard rushing wind
The earth below trembles
and Your fire shuts me in
Whisper Your love
Whisper Your glory
Whisper Your mercy over me
Whisper Your power
Whisper it tenderly
Whisper Your mercy over me
But the small voice I hear
Draws me out of the cave
There’s an anchor of fear
As I move toward my name
You gently call me
Despite my dismay
Of your justice
and my faithlessness.
Have Your Way
Kiersten Venezia
Take my eyes and set my gaze above
Take my ears and fill them with your song
Take my mind and wrap it ‘round your Holy Word
Take my hands and give them healing touch
Take my feet and lead me to the lost
Take my knees and bring them low to sacred ground
I’m not my own
I’m bought at a price
A savior on a tree
I’m not my own
You paid for my crime
So have Your way with me
Take my soul You’ve sealed it with Your blood
Take my will conform it to Your own
And take my heart refine it with Your blazing fire
Offered no longer for my gain
Presented for only Your righteousness
So use me and shape me
Transform me and make me
A new creation
Speak to Me
Kiersten Venezia and Karen Michel
Speak to my heart
As I shut out the world
And all that I know
To walk with you now
Speak to me (I am listening)
Move me to embrace your will
Speak to me (I am open)
For I am waiting
Speak to my heart
Confused by pain
Consumed by fear
Of the unknown ahead
Speak to my heart
To these desperate parts
Speak to my dreams
As I lie here awake
I’ll Sing
Kiersten Venezia
You say you’re feeling sad today
I hear it in your voice.
Another long and sleepless night
Since your dreams have walked away.
Your greatest fears have come to pass
As you face life all alone
And all your love and prayers remain unanswered.
Sometimes I don’t know what to say
As you face another day.
So I’m glad to know these songs I write
Are healing in some way.
So I’ll sing of the goodness and glory of God.
I’ll sing of His faithfulness to meet you where you are.
When your pain seems unrelenting
And you have no words to pray,
Just close your eyes and listen
And I’ll sing.
I don’t pretend to understand
the mystery of free choice.
When one man’s search for pleasure
Brings another only pain.
Blessings come and blessings go,
But this one thing I know.
A child of God will never be abandoned.
Just close your eyes
He hears your cries.
So hold on tight,
He’s gonna make it right.
And you’ll sing.
Carry On
Kiersten Venezia
For SSM Health Care, and the Franciscan Sisters of Mary
This is a story of love
and bravery of the soul
A call to embrace
a suffering humanity
Mother Odilia
Gave from her poverty
Sharing her gifts
From a basket filled with hope.
She opened her hands to the needy
She stretched out her arms to the poor.
Extending true mercy
Turning no one away
Revealing the presence of God
Open your eyes
Behold all the lives
Who carry on
Revived by love and prayer
Open your hearts
Give who you are
To carry on
Our heritage of healing
Wiping a feverish brow
Holding a weary hand
Habit clad angels embraced
those the world denied.
Now is the time to bear
The burden of those in need
Offer yourself as a living sacrifice.
Open your hands to the needy
Stretch out your arms to the poor
Extending true mercy
Turning no one away
Revealing the presence of God
